Explosion of AMD RYZEN 7000 X3D Processors: What is the problem and what is the solution?

What happened and why:

Explosion of some AMD R7000X3D series processors, specifically the (RYZEN 7 7800X3d) processor, where the temperature of the processor rises, which leads to burning and swelling in it, in addition to disabling the motherboard in some cases, and a problem that has several causes, but the common factor is (Voltage).

And the problem of (Voltage) was repeated with AMD previously in graphics cards (RX VEGA64), as AMD did not adjust the (Voltage) of its products, which causes instability and unnecessary excessive heat.

The problem is currently limited to RYZN7000X3D processors, especially the R7800X3d.

Among the expected reasons for the occurrence of a problem in this processor are:

1- The (3D V-Cache): because this technology works by adding a (cache) on top of the chip or the regular cores, and thus increases the thickness of the chip and reduces the efficiency of heat transfer, and thus leads to heat retention inside the chip.

2- Voltage is high on some motherboards (some), and this is a recurring problem with AMD in many of its products, and it seems that this time the problem is bigger.

* We want to mention that an incident occurred or was recorded on the use of (ASUS) and (gigabyte) motherboards. We do not mean that the motherboards are bad, but the presence of several factors, including a basic problem in the processors, that they are not set to a specific voltage, and the failure to publish companies that prevent limit motherboards The maximum permissible voltage and a minor software problem in the boards as they did not set a limit on the amount of power that should reach the processor, which caused the processor to burn and sometimes damage the motherboard.

Of course, AMD is a good company, and we do not mean to underestimate the value of its products, as it has excellent processors and acceptable graphics cards, and it creates competition in the market, and that issuing a product that has an error or a problem does not mean that it is a bad company, but they must work to fix it and not repeat it.

What is the solution to the problem and how to avoid it:

We recommend that you stay away from buying R7000X3D processors at the present time until companies announce a solution to the problem.

I have a RYZEN7800X3d processor, what should I do?

A- If you have a processor, the best thing to do is to stop using your computer for a time to offer a solution to the problem in a short period.

B- If you need a computer and do not have an alternative, you must:

1- Download and update the BIOS of the motherboard with the latest version, because companies have launched updates to reduce Voltage to protect the processor from crashing.

2- To do a manual undervoltage for the processor

3- Updating the processor definitions from the latest AMD offered on its website to solve a problem

4- If you have the (Expo) activated, you should stop it because it plays a role in raising the voltage of the processor

* Step 1 + 2 at the present time are separate, but in the near future it will be a step and take it, which is updating the bios, as the definition companies will be integrated into the bios

Does the warranty cover this incident?

Regarding the processor, yes, AMD is responsible for the processors that exploded, and the warranty must cover these damages, because it is a manufacturing defect and a problem from the company.

As for the motherboards that were damaged, the matter is up to the manufacturer, as some companies guarantee them to cover the damages, and some other companies do not.

The warranty applies to all authorized sellers.

In conclusion, we want to tell you to take care of yourselves and anchor, as a fire may occur because of this problem, and take the steps mentioned above to avoid a problem.
